FOG /// IT’S ALL ABOUT THE THUG

Fog_THUG

Fog is Greek dj/producer, Achilleas Dimitracopoulos, and that is basically all I know about him. Oh yeah, and he makes some really great tech-house and deep house. I stumbled upon his music last week while cruising my fave sites (which shall remain nameless) and I gave it a test drive. After the first bassline touched down on my eardrums I was hooked. His latest EP titled, "It's All About the Thug," packs three originals and a couple of remixes by Sarp Yilmaz and Stefano Esposito (two new names for me as well). The EP's self-titled track is hands down what did it for me. I just had this shit eating grin on my face like, "I can't wait to play this out!" It's like creeping bassline funk that doesn't stop grooving. These are sunny soul-packed jams for sure. Well placed bongo hits and claps keep your ears alert as you are lulled into a deep bliss by the trotting bass and strong but airy synth elements. The originals on this EP are where it's at in my opinion. The Sarp Yilmaz remix of "It's All About the Thug," is a bit to Jazzy for me and lacks that strong bass lead I prefer. But if you're into synth organ riffs it might be right up your alley. The Stefano Esposito remix of "Maelstrom," is another story. It's always good to hear a remix that has a totally different sound and vibe to it than the original, and Stefano did just that with some acid washed bass licks and by putting much less emphasis on builds he creates a deeper mood perfect for later in the evening after the sun goes down. He's had releases on labels like Noir, Metroline Limited and currently London's Apparel Music imprint, and received support from big dawgs like Richie Hawtin, Nic Fancuilli, and Mark Knight so it's no doubt we'll be hearing more from Fog in the coming days. I'm looking forward to it. GRAB THE EP ON BEATPORT NOW!
